We differ (A reflection from Multiple Intelligence)

Probably the parents of the 20th century would often tell their children before that they need to study hard in order for them to obtain a good grades in school. They are not in favor of having their kids learn outside school nor make them explore the other side of being kids. For them, studying is the only way to get better. We are often taught that academics are really important because it is essential on being a student. Well, I am not really against that practice because in fairness to them these people who were raised in this kind of scenario are really excellent at achievers. However their is a limitation. I know some people who are really good in memorizing but failed the practicality of what they have learned.
Going to the 90s up to the present, Children nowadays become enthusiastic in learning. Exploring new things really excited them up to the point that their curiosity would harm them. In school, we found out that the students learn in difference ways. Not all can be logical nor artistic. That's why educators and psychologists came up with a study and they found out that students have difference intelligences which what we call now as Multiple Intelligence.
Multiple Intelligence was proposed by Howard Gardner as a "model of intelligence" that specifically divides the modality of learning of a student. In his theory there are 8 intelligences wherein a child can learn from. Now the question is why do we have multiple intelligence? It's because the main factor here is the environment as certain kid would most probably grow up to. Some because of the genes inherited from their parents and some are just but the interest of the kid at all.
Teachers, should be aware enough on how these kids learn whether be it through music, body- kinesthetic or logical thinkers. This should be a challenge for every teachers on how they will dwell in this kind of intelligence delivering the knowledge needed for each students. This might sound impossible, but it is really the job of the teacher to know specifically the specific intelligence that a child possesses.
In this modern times, a lot of factors could affect ones learning. The parents and the teachers should collaborate on how these kids would learn from school or at home. Having a different multiple intelligence is not an abnormality, instead this is a unique way on how kids learn. One reason for it is this a child's interest and the main job of the parents and teachers is to nurture, cultivate and enhance it. It is a gift from God and we should be proud of it.

And I'm Back :)
"Never burn bridges" It's a golden rule in the corporate world either in educational system. It has been a privilege for me working for an International School for the past 2 years and now again I'm back. I'm back but as a part time nga lang. haha. Anyway I'm glad that the school I've been working with now is finally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and I just can imagine how these people in this institution are overwhelmed. Again, its not an overnight success. It took years and years of preparations, full of what ifs and doubts. But because of determination, full of hope and faith in God, the biggest challenge yet was been surpassed. Before, the owner of the school would always tell us to believe, believe, believe in your dreams and dream big! And now I am amazed how this little dream becomes a reality and I am happy because I am a witness how the school struggled for it. Despite of the hear says and rumors, I still find a little light beyond darkness. (mehganon). I will not be surprised if one day will turn to become "the next big" thing in Muntinlupa. or even in the Philippines and Korea.
I would like to express my gratitude to the people who never closed the door and gave me the opportunity to teach again in the school where it all began. This school is a life changing school. A career-shifter as well lol. Meeting new people and colleagues are such a big experience for me and it feels good. However, I hope they will like me too. And of course, meeting my former colleagues as well makes me reminisce the good old times with the two batches of teachers I've worked with. HAHA I may look quiet for now pero it's still too early to judge. 10 months to go and I just can't help myself but to be excited to work again with these "new breed of teachers" as the school would describe and I am looking forward for new students, challenges and successes in this coming school year. Thank you MITIS. :)
